Runner up in the UTS Community Alumni Awards
Kate was completing her final exams of her business degree at University of Technology when she received news of the tragic loss of her sister and best friend, Nicole. Kate had received a graduate trainee position with an international company ,however, after a short time Kate decided it was more important to honour Nicole by ensuring young adults were prepared to travel safely to save other families her heartbreak.
Her skills from her UTS subjects including working with not-for-profit organisations gave Kate the skills to develop a travel safety presentation and speak to over 35,000 students in all states of Australia. Nicole Fitzsimons Foundation received grants from Jetstar and Smartraveller for Kate to produce a travel safety film to make travel safety education.
